Don't feed them after midnight…

I'm off to see the mighty Mogwai tonight: monstrous Scottish instrumental post-rockers. I saw once before, at least a decade ago, supporting the Manic Street Preachers at Stoke's Trentham Gardens. The Manics fans were less than impressed by the choice of support act: I was beaming widely and soaking up the massive noise while everybody else clapped their hands over their ears.

Oh god, so I woke up old. This is happening a lot lately. I too saw Mogwai and now have to face up to the knowledge that it was about a decade ago! The problem is, I still think of them young upstarts, some of the signs of aging are impervious to the old Olay it seems! Now I’m going to have to listen to ‘Death in Vegas’ (one of my other favorites from that era) all night long and relive my fast retreating youth. I blame your blog entirely for forcing me to acknowledge that, like Abe Simpson: "I used to be 'with it', but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't 'it', and what's 'it' seems weird and scary."

I'm sorry to be the harbinger of death, but it's true. I also think of Mogwai as the edgy young kids who put Britpop out of its misery - Mogwai's debut was 1995.

That's one of the best Simpsons quotes ever.
