I am big. It's the classrooms that got small.

I've been watching a lot of 30s and 40s films recently - particularly screwball comedies, Bogart/Bacall and Hepburn/Tracy features: hard-boiled noir and great suits.

This morning I'm off to the local arts cinema to join the film students watching Sunset Boulevard on the big screen for the last time ever: bewitching, dark, compelling, bitter, self-reflexive and complex, the very best of what mass culture can do.

I'm ready for my close-up now.
