Stupid books

I received a book today, Mary Rubio's Lucy Maud Montgomery: The Gift of Wings - a biography of the Anne of Green Gables author.

Unfortunately, I've already got it - somehow I managed to buy it from Amazons Canada and UK.

So: I offer it as a prize. In the comments, finish this sentence as wittily as possible:

The worst book I have ever read is…

Several authors I admire hugely died on this day: Thomas More, Guy de Maupassant, Kenneth Grahame and William Faulkner. Just before their summer holidays too.

Very cruel and funny. I haven't read it yet, though the title doesn't inspire confidence!

Oh, fuck you "Jols" I was going to do that joke.

Not sure really. I didn't like "On the Road" but not even I can claim it's the worst book ever (okay, I could if I was in a mischievous mood).

That then leaves me with "Confessions of an English opium-eater", but I only read about 2 pages of that shit, so I can't say I read it. Same applies to "Ivanhoe", which is unreadable.

Aha! Wait! I forgot "Wise Children", which was so unbelievably boring that at one point I had to sniff marker pens whilst reading it to make it seem more interesting.

I was merely alluding to my dumping bad books on you. It is very possible I have saved you from the very worst. I once had a copy of a truly evil diet book called "The Gates of Heaven are Narrow" (wish I still had it, don't know what happened to it) Pedley once saw fit to buy me a Rush Limbaugh book which, like when a favourite cat brings you a half eaten yet still breathing frog, I had to discreetly dispose of while he wasn't looking. However, the worst book I have ever read was The Story of a Shipwreked Sailor by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I am grateful that while reading it no one said to me "would you like to read another page or would you prefer I pull out your finger nails with these rusty pliers?" as if they had I would be typing this comment with gammy stumps.

You have given me a lot of very downbeat stuff, though I've just finished the Wodehouse compilation.

I've heard the Marquez is unreadable. That and the Rush Limbaugh might be a winner.
