Skiving

Do you use this word where you are?
I'm going to a colleague's formal goodbye, then I'm off to London for intellectual and artistic fun tomorrow. Try to get by without me, and enjoy the football.

I had to Google the word 'skiving' when I first heard it from my Scotsman. He uses it on me all the time, he likes to interrupt my work.
