A mere crotchet late

OK, I didn't do a music review yesterday. Too busy attending conference dinners to hear the High Commissioner say 'nucular' and keep quiet about Canada's environmental activity.

What's next on the odyssey? Well, the emphasis is on the 'odd'. Architeuthis Walks on Land is an eponymous album made by Amy and Catherine, who also play in The Nightingales and other bands, and on here play the viola, accordion and bassoon. They improvise, they drone, they sometimes sound a bit folky, sometimes they sound like they've only ever heard George Crumb or Stockhausen… it's rock serialism.

It's cool, but it's hard to listen to, though I like it more every time I play it. No tunes though, which might drive you up the wall. Do we need more experimental country-folk-classical?

Yes, yes we do. In theory. It's certainly pretentious and screams 'conservatoire kids slumming', but we do need pretension and music you have to pay attention to. You can't iron to it. Or do the crossword.
