Fiddlesticks

Sorry Ben: more 'difficult' modern composers today - William Bolcom's Violin Sonatas. Bolcom's still alive and likes playing with structures - multiple orchestras and that kind of shenanigans.

The second sonata's one of my favourites - there are blues passages and all sorts of competing influences which echo the miseries of war. The third and fourth are brilliant - there are even Arabic-style passages in there, and they demand stunning virtuosity.
