Election fever

Politics is getting interesting. The Tories are losing it in a big way: Michael Gove (education spokesman) appeared to threaten the BBC in a sinister fashion on Newsnight the other day after a very unconvincing defence of sleaze, while proposing a very reactionary education policy, their TV game-show adder-up adviser with a 3rd class degree Carol Vorderman went into uninformed far-right Sarah Palin meltdown mode on Question Time, and Michael Ashcroft, the Sleaze from Belize, is still making headlines for avoiding tax while spending millions trying to buy the election. Oh, and the Conservative Party Leader's wife may be a Labour voter (she's New Labour's ideal woman: rich, selfish, obsessed with material goods…)

Meanwhile, here's an ironic image - from when Labour were still radical (1909). I have this in my flat in postcard form. I bought it at the wonderful People's History Museum in Manchester, which has been redeveloped - must get up there again.

Morning Vole!

You've just reminded me of a discussion we had at the dinner table last night, where I once again cranked up my "wind-up meter" to new, exciting levels, claiming that Gove's plan for a new traditional education was "dangerously bordering on racism". I did enjoy that one.

Nevertheless, I've always hated that smarmy little pillock, even before he got involved in politics and wrote for a paper (I forget which one) Carol Vorderman was hilarious, and has finally had to accept that Rachel Riley is far superior to her on Countdown. Ashcroft is still a bastard.

However, I quite fancy Samantha Cameron. She's certainly the best leaders wife, and we all know that's the only thing that matters. So who do I vote for now?!

Sam Cameron: horse-faced.
I think his policy is stupid and racist - all that stuff about celebrating the Empire and 'Kings and Queens of England': the Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish will love that.

Hope your family appreciated the routine.
