It goes without saying that the Daily Mail is evil every day (after all there is a clue in its title) but it doesn't follow that the furore over Jan Moir is ridiculous. Actually the opposite is true in that the reaction to Jan Moir's column is perfectly sensible and the letting the Mail get away with it every other day is ridiculous.
The argument that it is ridiculous to get annoyed at something being evil if it is evil every day is preposterous. It is a mindset that stems from superstitious religion - i.e. you can't change the nature of the devil. The Daily Mail is not a fixed point of reference, it is a collection of silly people and a printing press. Pointing that out occaisionally is far from being ridiculous.
Also, it is worth pointing out that while the protest will not affect the Daily Mail one iota it has led to discussions about the role of the Press Complaints Commission.
I know, it's definitely worth making a fuss over this particular piece, but we should be harassing the Mail regularly - Moir's article wasn't particularly out of the ordinary by their standards.
Quite agree - is quite a nice example for illustrating the wholly unpleasant nature of the rag, though. Saves me having to bring up their war record again...although I probably will anyway!
