Why subeditors are important

I watched the BBC News last night. They had the story about a US Congressman who resigned after texting women pictures of his penis. His name, by the way, is Anthony Weiner.

Now I'm not sure that a story like this is at all relevant to a UK audience other than to demonstrate where the global centre of power is, but its introduction made me choke on my chips:
