I admire the bravery of anyone who writes on the subject of grammar and particularly apostrophes. Just replying to this is giving me cold sweats, I'll make sure I check it several times before pressing publish. Stephen Fry's piece (it could have been a podcast) on the wider issue of pedantry in spelling is truly liberating. Though some would say it's easy to dismiss the importance of correctness when one is always pretty damn correct oneself. (did you note the paranoid, hyper-correctness of the pronouns in the last sentence?). It's probably still on his website if you haven't read it already. By the way, I won't be adopting this laissez-faire approach to grammar in any of my future essays, so no need for any added scrutiny.
