Intriguing

Neal's homemade present to me involves an (empty) tube from a popular brand of fake crisps. My mind boggles. Any ideas?

Stuffed with cotton wool and shredded paper it would make a lovely snug home for a vole.

P.S. What has happened to the Friday conundrum – it is a very popular feature of your blog, and your regular readers are disappointed by its absence.

Vole hasn't been well and he's organising some mammoth fencing competition... So I guess it slipped his mind - he was so busy he passed up on the pub Friday.

Home made kaleidoscope eh? Funny you should mention that because the Vole made us all home made kaleidoscopes a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, despite the Vole being a very intelligent man, there were one or two design faults. The two that spring most readily to mind were mine being triangular, which as you can imagine rather hampered the outer tube being turned around the inner tube, and Dan's having no barrier between the glitter and the eyehole so that the viewer got an eyeball full of tiny bits of plastic each time they looked at their kaleidoscope.

Oh how we laughed, on our way to the opthalmology department.

Some sort of personal protective device for your fencing tourneys? (I'm sorry.) (No, I'm not.)

Thank you for all your imaginative suggestions, especially Intelliwench's. Very flattering.

I'd forgotten about the kaleidoscopes. They were very poorly made. Never have I used the phrase 'it's the thought that counts' more often. It clearly isn't. It's the money to buy things made by people who know what they're doing.

Neal's gift deserves a separate post, so I'll reveal the full horror shortly.
