This week's Friday conundrum

Worst (or most misleading) book title, band name, album or other creative effort? What's the most disappointing experience of your life? The event or thing that seemed to promise everything, only to let you down? ('Birth' is not allowed).

Stone Roses' Second Coming gets some points for presumption, and loses several million for being rubbish. The Beatles is a pun beneath even me… I'll think of more later.

I've always thought Red Hot Chili Peppers was a rubbish band name.

Most disappointing experience/week of my life came in 1995. We lost the Premier League title on the final day of the season at West Ham after Andy Cole missed 6,143,562 chances, and then the following weekend we lost the Cup Final 1-0 to a pretty poor Everton side.

I cried. Twice.

Worst band name ever: The Divine Comedy. I never really got why they called themselves that, or why Neil Hannon called himself that. Even if some of their songs were good they still have a lot to live up too.

Merciless - it's a literary reference presumably devised to show everyone how educated Neil Hannon is. I don't mind it actually - it suggests that all human life is in their songs.

Ewar - agreed. RHCP is crap. As is Andrew WK

Most disappointing film? So many choices - The Crow 2, The Mummy 2, The Godfather part 3, Any of the Star Wars Prequels, the Spiderman films, Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Kill Bill vol. 1, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, The 300, Ghostbusters 2, Jackson's King Kong Remake, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mirror, A Life Less Ordinary, Ice Age, Shrek 2...

Top Three though; 3. The Aristocrats (why gather that much comedic talent for the sole purpose of being unfunny?) 2. Farenheit 9/11 (lazy, self absorbed, badly argued, possibly did more harm than good) 1. Sideways (which everyone said was the best film ever but turned out to be a slightly below average buddy movie entirely peopled with unloveable characters)

I don't disagree with any of those choices, though why you saw Crow 1, let alone 2, or Star Wars beyond my comprehension.

I know its a literary reference hence me saying they have a lote to live up to. Its a classic which they sell in The Works for £4.

Sorry merciless - I missed your point the first time. I'm an idiot…

I can confirm that the Stone Roses' Second Coming is indeed the biggest disappointment of all time. Scientists were initially divided by 'Love Spreads', which lays claim to being 'the best comeback single of all time', but this theory was ultimately discredited by the appearance of 'hidden' track 'The Foz', which, however viewed, serves only to rub salt into the wounds of whomever was stupid enough to lose sleep the night before its release and who paid full price for it. I refer you to my recent blog for further reading.

I prefer the second album.

You're just being contrary now.

Christmas day 1982.

Pointy shards of ice floating in concentrated cordial. The happy happy advert children lie through their shiny teeth.

By the way, whilst searching for an appropriate image for this, I was presented with the most unexpected porn. Perhaps that's where his hat went.
