Meanwhile on another planet

Pro-Vice Chancellor for research at Sussex makes working there sound like paradise for staff - light workload for new staff in the first three years, no higher promotion for selfishly-behaved academics, strong defence of the higher education ethos, aims to be the employer of first choice… He even wanders about the campus inviting random colleagues for coffee, and makes sure he gets to know everybody, to the benefit of individual and and institution. If it's true, what a great place.

Lets poach him from Sussex bribed with promises whilst he cannot help but impressed by the wit and charm of academics and students at Wolverhampton. Also the beautiful scenery and nightlife in the City do not forget.

It's Sussex, Vole, what do you expect?

I miss the place so much. Just reading that takes me back to the pure air of the South Downs, the sound of seagulls, the crunching as you walk along the stones on Worthing Beach in your bare feet, the GlaxoSmithKline factory...

...well, not that one.

…the southerners, the expense, the jellied eels, rudeness, unaffordable homes, searing heat, people with hairstyles…

Yes, there's some more excellent things. Add incredible traffic to that list.

I trust you have visited North Yorkshire, you two. Now that is paradise. I shall be back there very soon to bask in the sunshine.
