I have a soft spot for The Primitives, one of the many catchy jangly-guitar indie groups swept away by the thuggish tsunami of Britpop. 'The The Flowers' and 'Crash' are still gems. However, I never got to see them back in the day, so I took the opportunity when they played near me in 2012, and thanks to my friend Phil, the venue manager, I was allowed to bring along my camera.
The technical challenges are similar to a fencing competition: no clear sightlines, terrible lighting and no flash. Well, I could probably get away with using flash in a booze-fuelled gig venue, but it doesn't seem like a very kind thing to do to artists, and not doing so adds a level of technical challenge.
