Book-buying isn't a competitive sport. So leaving comments about your 157 purchases this year (does your wife know?) is unkind - and I don't have lots of 10p library sales round here. Now I'm feeling inadequate. Thanks, mate. Now I've got to go into town and buy 50-odd books to salve the hurt.

Book buying isn't a competitive sport? I wish someone had told me that seventy-odd years ago. It took me two days to move all my books into my new flat. Well it took two rather nice gentlemen two days. When you get to my age it helps if you can afford some assistance. For the record I am on four hundred and seventeen this year. I imagine I will be long dead before I even read a quarter of them. They do 'furnish a room' though don't they?
