They told me in the record shop that this lot sound like Galaxie 500. Feldberg very much don't sound like Galaxie 500: much more like St. Etienne. But they're still very good. I nominate these Icelanders as my album of the holiday.
This is what Galaxie 500 sound like: this is their cover of the Velvets' 'Here She Comes Now'.
They're one of my favourite bands ever. They're successor band, Damon and Naomi, also wrote a song called 'The New Historicism', which I think is cool. Add that to Scritti Politti's 'Jacques Derrida' and we've got the beginnings of a critical theory soundtrack!

Collateral damage
I'm slowly unpacking. Very little is damaged, but I have lost some of my favourite CDs - several Nick Drake and all but one of my Damon and Naomi albums, which is very strange. If you don't know them, they make a darker version of dreampop. They used to be in Galaxie 500: the other bloke, Dean Wareham, founded Luna subsequently. Highly recommended for the wee hours. Gotta love bands with songs like 'The New Historicism', which is funny because I'm currently reading that movement's founding text, Greenblatt's Learning to Curse.

Wig out
I don't sing the praises of non-Britpop indie bands nearly enough - I love Field Mice, Galaxie 500, Low, Ride, Stereolab, Velocette, The Go-Betweens and loads of others and have well over 20,000 records in my room to prove it (and no money). Turn up your speakers and rock (metronomically and exponentially) to Super-Electric by Stereolab.
