So I'm assuming that the Man U - Porto ref was a) incredibly brave; b) foreign and c) heavily guarded when he actually blew the whistle for full time after Porto scored a 90th minute equaliser. If he'd been local, a few minutes would have been found. Perhaps Tevez could have been delayed by a difficult shoelace conundrum, Ferguson might have had a headache, ANYTHING.

In our gritty 1-0 win over your anti-football, fouling, cheating, "ooh we have a long throw" establishment, Tevez got the winner in the 83rd minute. Hardly "deep into injury time". Unless you're thinking of the game at OT, where 0 of our 5 goals came in injury time.
Clearly you didn't watch the game last night. You would have known that the ref played 3 minutes of injury time, which was actually increased to 5 minutes due to Porto's goalkeeper deliberately time-wasting. And no United fan will be talking about the ref this morning, more the defending that came straight from the Tony Mowbray school of stopping the opposition.

I think Ewarwoowar has said it all. Man U do not believe in playing for draws or giving up before the full time whilstle has been blown whenever that may be, which is why they have won 17 league titles and more FA cups that any other English side.

I'm sure we deserved those extra minutes, given the violence dealt to our sensitive strikers by the bully-boys from famous teams - but the sight of Ferguson raving at the ref and pointing at his watch on Sunday was instructive.

I think I'll have to respond yes to both proposals. Aidan, I bet you're disappointed that once again a non-political post has prompted the most comments.
Most of what needs saying here has been said already. Can I just point out though that stoppage or 'injury' time is not time added for injurys but a reflection of how much time of the game was lost due to play being stopped. This could be, for example, due to horrible tackles, repeatedly trying to force long throw-ins, players hitting their own team mates etc etc.
Secondly Voley, can I just ask how you know there were no injuries in the Utd/Chelsea games as you don't actually watch the games relying instead on me for score updates while you escort rich children with swords around the home counties.
OK, discipline is lacking in the Stoke camp, I accept. I do read the newspaper reports and watch MotD as well - and don't mix with the home counties set.
However, you've all been very informative and amusing on this thread. Despite it all though, you'll find that honest, hardworking physical football is the way forward, especially for cash-strapped teams in unglamorous cities.
