I'm not sure which is more depressing - that the front runner for the Republicans wants to abolish the Departments for Education (librls conspirin' to tell kids stuff what we don't want 'em to larn 'bout) and Commerce (all those nasty rules) and rip up the Environmental Protection Agency, or that he's such an inarticulate dumbass. He's George Bush's successor as Texan governor, so perhaps it goes with the job. But he's starting to actually look like Dubya. Must be all the oil seeping into their genes.

Rats are deserting the sinking Republican ship

Senator Arlen Specter ('is haunting Europe' - sorry, bit of a politics joke there) has joined the Democrats. He's still anti-union and generally rightwing, but if Al Franken finally gets seated, the Dems will have a filibuster proof majority of 60-40 and can really start to dismantle the Bush legacy. Poor people might even get medical care!
