Animals were harmed in the making of this video

Old news to some of you, but this is horrific: a team's owl mascot gets kicked off the pitch and dies.

Obviously there's something dubious about keeping an owl as any sort of pet, let alone casually booting it (Dan: anything on your conscience?).

But I'll say this: millions of people are abused, individually and collectively, every day, and nobody gets angry about it. We just turn away, or carry on colluding. Today, the Saudis are using the weaponry the UK sold them, to oppress the people of Bahrain. We might not like it, but we sure as hell won't feel as bad about as we do when watching this video.

The topic turns up in one of my favourite films, Grosse Pointe Blank, in which two assassins get upset over the death of a dog rather than on the many killings they've perpetrated.
