The Pink Polytechnic

Something to celebrate at last: The Hegemon has been judged by Stonewall as one of the 4 most gay-friendly HE institutions in the country.

It's quite a good result: the student body includes a large number of conservative religious people - of various faiths - who are less than fond of homosexuals. I expect an evangelical backlash forthwith.

Not all religious people are homophobic, in fact I don't know one amongst my family, friends and colleagues.

You're absolutely right there, Anonymous. It's also true that without homosexual men, the Catholic and Anglican churches would be severely understaffed.

But it is true that very often, the loudest voices are the homophobic ones, and that they're often from the evangelical wing.

Who wrote that poem about a Roman centurion who makes love to the dead body of Christ? I'm not googling it, this is a shared PC.

Happy belated birthday Vole!

James Kirkup. It was a cause celebre, but not a very good poem.
