What do they know of cricket, who only cricket know?

Asked C L R James. Very little, if we're talking about Australia, humiliated! I hope England and Wales (usually known as England) go out next. Today: Holland v. Pakistan live here. Can Holland beat Pakistan? Well, they beat England convincingly. Ireland, of course, qualified for the Super 8s already, by beating Bangladesh. This is how they did it:
Tamim's run-out was a comic affair. Niall O'Brien dashed around the stumps to collect Mahmudullah's nudge, Tamim was sent back and dropped his bat, and O'Brien's throw to the bowler's end deflected on to the stumps off the ample stomach of William McCallan.

Save me from extinction - all donations gratefully received

Yes: voles are recovering from your wanton carelessness and cruelty. Numbers have doubled recently (I can't embed this delightful video, unfortunately). I'm still endangered though, so any donations to either me, The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country, or The Watervole Project in London, which give special care to voles, will be gratefully received.

Meanwhile, Ireland have thrashed Bangladesh. Next up: India, later in the week. I'm off to nibble shoots now.

Yet more booky-wooks

Hurrah! I'm dropping with exhaustion, but my spirits are revived by the arrival of five books today: Sarah Waters' The Little Stranger, China Miéville's The City and the City, and all three of Marilynne Robinson's novels: Gilead, Home and Housekeeping. One of them's coming to this meeting.

Bangladesh 137/8 (20/20 ov)

Ireland 58/1 (8.6/20 ov)
