All Hail Sachin Tendulkar

Obviously I'll lose most of my readers when I utter the magic word: cricket!

Tendulkar is one of the greatest Indian cricketers of his generation. Today, he smashed 200 in a one-day international against South Africa. 200 in a 5-day Test match is rare: it's never happened in a one-day, and he did it with only 3 sixes (i.e. six runs awarded for hitting it over the boundary in the air). This is the man who was booed a while ago for slow scoring. And he's almost 37 years old. 200 not out in 147 balls - a masterclass.

    He's not too shabby.

    The only slight problem I have with Sachin is that he's scored most of his runs in India, where the pitches there are like roads (scores like 600-5d are all too common)

    In that respect I'd put Ponting and Lara ahead of him, but only just.

    Yes, Indian pitches are rock hard - Ponting wins on consistency and Lara on style, but Tendulkar's definitely up there with them.

    So glad you mentioned this...I wouldn't say that Lara was necessarily better than Sachin, although he was an asset to Warwickshire during his spell under the legendary Dermot Reeve - Shame they havn't replicated that success in recent years! Roll on April is all I can say so I can once more tune into 'Blowers' on the radio and miss the wickets in preference to his detailed description of the pigeons :)

    Have to say I can't stand the radio commentary - too self-satisfied. I'm addicted to the Guardian's Over-by-Over coverage instead.

    It's great in the car, makes me smile and I do love Blowfeld. WM's commentary on County matches is a good laugh too...biased is not the word, which is great when it's in Warwickshire's favour but occasionally the connection over the internet fails and you're forced to listen to the opposition's local sation...I get a little animated then!

    For me, TMS is one of the great joys of life. Wasn't Blowers dad or uncle the inspiration for the Bond villain? I think he was at school with Fleming.
