Marking: the ongoing saga

Just out of curiosity, what are you doing with your time? I know a few of you have actual jobs, and some of you are students, so what are you up to today? I'm on what feels like day 937 of the marking marathon and the joy is starting to wear off…

Still, books should be appearing in the post today, and I'm listening solely to bird-themed songs.

I'm considering buying some music which reminds me of something I was going to ask you. I think I remember reading that you have the God Help The Girl album. Is it any good because that is one of the two things I might buy?

I have the single, and like it. I didn't realise the album was out yet. What's the other option?

I've heard the single and the b-side and thought it was great. I saw the album on Matador records site. My mistake: its not out yet but I think that might be pre-order. I might just buy the single for now.

The other option was Jason Lytle from Grandaddy, he's gone solo now and I'm just getting into his old band now. His stuff sounds really great.

I am about to go on holiday so am sorting out some works things. I am also panciking that someone has stolen my passport out of my bag in the 2 minutes I left it unattended to go make a drink in the kitchen. I am also trying to conjure a response to an earlier post that will not make me seem not bitter/upset/bothered

Disappointed is perfectly acceptable, Emma. It's just an emotion MU fans haven't experienced for a while. Not since your last prawn sandwich, anyway.

Merciless - I loved Grandaddy, but haven't heard the solo stuff yet. I'm listening to a lot of Bon Iver after their intense ATP set.

I have found my Wii stuff in the garage and am testing it to make sure it all works before I sell it to an old friend. I also need to make an appointment with Specsavers, in the vain hope that it's my ancient glasses that are causing me the migraines I get.

But first, a nice cup of tea.

I am just about to watch the Apprentice on iPlayer. Hoorah.

I have the Blood Bank EP by Bon Iver, the last track is awesome.

Bon iver are going to be at Glastonbury. whooooo!!
And I am going to shut up about going on about glastonbury now, im starting to do my own head in.
Today I have cooked some really nice (garlic, parma ham and red wine) sausages. The plan for the rest of my day is to enjoy my day off work, by doing the laundry and looking through the modules for next year. Exciting eh!

Ewarwoowar how much do specsavers charge you for an eye test?? I went in town the other month and the lady said £60!! I may have misheard her but I don't think I did. I get headaches too, but i'll put up with them rather than pay that price!

No idea to be honest, last time I went I got the eye-test for free, because I was under 19 and in full-time education.

Can't find costs on their website either, I'm afraid.

You're all living such glamorous lives. Spare a thought for me, locked in MC building poring over your essays…

Though at least I don't need glasses. Constant reading is eye exercise

Please write bigger.
For a minute there I thought that I had heard of some of the music you were discussing, but then realised that the band I was thinking of was Everything But The Girl - a good if overly sensitive band but rather modern for me, and I guess you lot have heard them in a museum or on a gramaphone you found in a time capsule that your dad buried or summat.
I also am becoming increasingly blindingated, which is bad at my age because you become the only person who doesn't clock the shaggines of your own nasal hair.

I like early Everything But The Girl a lot - until they discovered 'beats'.

Hello,

I'm having a big dilemma about whether or not to apply for a lecturer post I've seen advertised and really like the look of (an informal chat with the Professor was very encouraging - about the place, and my chances) and incur the wrath of my father and my other half who both say FINISH THE PHD FIRST! I say it isn't that simple, good jobs in academia are few and far between and it'd be unwise to be unemployed, out of the academic loop and then looking for jobs! I've also been bugging my friend Anita (who knows a lot more than me about most things!)with one million job dilemma related questions, oh, and pleasing Voley by forwarding on a Guardian survey on the future of politics. My life is so dull, I wish I was packing for holiday, playing with a Wii or contemplating buying new music. Natural Blues - if you're going to Glasto and like Bon Iver be sure to check out M Ward too. I'm not going so I officially hate you! As I live in the middle of nowhere I missed seeing both Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Metric on tour and now they're both playing Glasto, which I was foolish enough to pass up buying tickets for this year. Emma, have a great holiday, and don't forget my Jolly Ranchers!
